ABOUT US
We are a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote patient safety awareness and help to reduce medical errors. We started in March 2008 after a physician accused Mercy Hospital in Rockville Center, New York of poor quality of care. Since the accusation, the administrators have been trying to defame the doctor because he is outspoken and claiming he is disruptive. In December 2007, The Joint Commission identified 22 patient care violations at Mercy Hospital.
As a child, Dr. Colantonio had a passion to play doctor and pretend to make us all feel better by using band aids. As he got older his heart filled with more passion and determination to dedicate his life to the health care industry. He went on and became a surgeon. He has been practicing medicine since 1984. As the years went by, you could see in his eyes and in his family's life the happiness that was formed by the satisfaction of just being able to work in the health care industry and be surrounded with individuals that wanted his care. His achievements are grand. Please visit: jumpstartfoundation.org. Because of his utmost respect for patients and the health care industry, he strives for the best possible care he can give and expects everyone in the health care industry to have the same strive because we as patients deserve it and it is our "right."
He is not a doctor for the money but for the satisfaction and compassion he feels in his heart
for everyone and everything when he gets to save someone. Unfortunately, for the past year he has been seeing some wrongful deaths at one of the hospitals (Mercy Hospital in Rockville Center, New York) where he has been attending. He tried on many occasions to warn the hospital administrators of a particular physician assistant that he believed was improperly performing invasive procedures. As a result of this incompetent physician assistant, he believes that three patients died at the hospital. Instead of the hospital administrators addressing his accusations immediately, well before the 3 deaths, the administrators chose to defame Dr. Colantonio throughout the hospital and the community for being outspoken by claiming he is disruptive. This is not true. Is this the way a hospital administration should react after someone (anyone) makes such an accusation? Hospital administrators should take all accusations seriously and not wait until after something deadly happens, as in these cases. This is wrong, unethical and something needs to be done about it. The hospital wants to hide the truth and not face the consequences. Dr. Colantonio's goal is for Mercy Hospital to remain open, conform to policies and procedures that the government has implemented, and enforce them so that the hospital will be a safe place for all of us to seek help, as it is our "right."
